Mulupi’s research interests focus on the intersection of gender, class and race in the news industry. In particular, she examines representation of marginalized communities in the press, news coverage of sexual violence, the status of women journalists in the news industry, and use of social networking platforms and alternative press for feminist activism. Mulupi’s research draws on feminist knowledge (intersectionality, standpoint epistemology, ethics of care, etc.) to theorize pathways to better journalistic practices.
