My research activities are varied due to my dual nature as scholar and performer. This year my nasality and acoustics research has been a focus area of mine during my Van L. Lawrence Fellowship year. Our protocol at CU collected data on velopharyngeal opening variability in musical theater singers. I supervised two other data collections in the Berton Coffin Voice Lab - one a duplication of my velopharyngeal opening protocol for a DMA student's dissertation, the other pilot data using the RespTrak Respiratory Plethysmography system sponsored by my RIO Arts and Humanities grant to investigate changes in rib cage and abdominal respiratory singing strategies as singers adapt to altitude. Another large focus of my creative/scholarly work continues to be the VocalFri Podcast. This year we produced 23 episodes including 6 original content episodes and 17 guest episodes as we continue to be a leading source for cutting edge voice pedagogy and voice science information. My singing activities this year included my debut as tenor soloist in Mendelssohn's Elijah and my November Faculty Tuesday performance.
