Professor Senseney studies embodied carbon and environmental life cycle assessment of construction materials for civil infrastructure projects including pavements, drainage structures, bridges, and dams. He has extensive experience developing and evaluating environmental product declarations (EPDs) for building materials, including asphalt, concrete, steel, and aggregates. His research also includes non-destructive testing of pavements, pavement structural design, testing of earthwork/pavement materials, Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA), and expedient concrete pavement repairs. He and PhD student developed global warming potential (GWP) benchmarks for asphalt and concrete materials that contractors are required follow for CDOT projects as part of the Buy Clean Colorado Act. These GWP benchmarks will serve as a model for the rest of the country as CDOT is the first in the nation to implement such green public procurement policies for both concrete and asphalt.
