research overview

  • Dr. Bhatia’s work focuses on the teaching pedagogy of economics, with particular attention to making economics courses more inclusive, relevant, and effective for diverse student populations. Over the past year, her research and scholarly activity have centered on three related areas: (1) the economic mindset of students enrolled in economics courses; (2) student use of AI in economics assignments; and (3) how AI-supported learning varies across different economics course contexts. This work draws on evidence from her own courses as well as cross-institutional collaborations and emphasizes applied learning, student reasoning, and disciplinary thinking rather than automation or substitution. A central goal is to better understand what supports student engagement, persistence, and learning—particularly in asynchronous, online, and continuing education settings.
