research overview

  • I focus on the cross-cultural aspects of sustainable development, ethnographic methods/fieldwork, social entrepreneurship and social innovation, human dimensions of conservation, war and refugees and community-based peace building in Africa. I work in Cameroon, Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan, South Africa, Rwanda, and Uganda. I have also researched 'Gross National Happiness' (GNH) in Bhutan. In 2020, I co-authored an article with Alex Dudley and Irene Amoke on the impact of COVID-19 on Wildlife Conservation in East Africa in Swara Magazine of East African Wildlife. Alex Dudley and I also wrote a review of the film Kifaru (Swahili for Rhino). This American documentary is about the northern white rhinos at Ol Pejeta in Kenya.
