University as Civic Catalyst? Addressing Challenges of Power and Equity Journal Article uri icon

Overview

abstract

  • Abstract; The purpose of this article is to share tensions experienced by CU Engage: Center for Community-Based Learning and Engagement at the University of Colorado Boulder during its attempts to facilitate social justice-oriented community change. These tensions speak to larger questions about the goals of community and campus partnerships, especially the nature of power, equity, interests, and impact. These tensions are magnified given CU is a Predominantly White Institution. This article highlights the efforts of one program, Public Achievement, to address these tensions over time.
