Plant Physiological Ecology: We comprehensively address the ecology, physiology, anatomy, and transcriptomics of plants. A unifying theme and focus of our studies are the mechanisms of how plants survive and are productive in different environments, including challenging environmental conditions on Earth and in space. We compare and contrast these characteristics among plant species with different growth patterns as well as anatomical/morphological and physiological features. We currently focus on the model plant Arabidopsis and two lines of Brassica rapa FastPlants as candidates for the Artemis III moon mission. WE also plan to evaluate leaf-reflectance-based remote-sensing methods as indicators for several plant stress responses.
